The Indian women’s team won an ICC trophy for the first time in history on Sunday thanks to a group of 16 brilliant adolescent ladies led by captain Shafali Verma. The Indian Women’s U19 team won the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup at Potchefstroom with a commanding seven-wicket victory over England.

The inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which was held in South Africa, was led by India’s opener Shafali Verma. Verma, who turned 19 on the last day of the competition, is already well-known in the cricketing world. At the age of 15, she made her women’s T20I debut in September 2019 and was later selected to play in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
After losing to Australia in the MCG championship match, India ended as runners-up, with Verma emerging as the tournament’s breakout player. She was India’s best run scorer in the competition with 163 runs in five innings and a strike rate of 158.25. She also gave the squad some explosive starts.
Additionally, she temporarily held the No. 1 batter ranking in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings. Since then, she has played a crucial role in the senior Indian team, gradually making a name for herself in both white- and red-ball cricket. Verma has scored 1864 runs in 69 international games for India, including 11 fifties.

India captured the coveted title by first dismissing England for 68 in 17.1 overs, and then returning to chase down the low total in just 14 overs. India’s bowling attack at Senwes Park on Sunday, which featured pacer Titas Sadhu and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra, established the groundwork for a resounding victory over England.
Sadhu proved that Indian women’s fast bowling is in capable hands with her impressive stats of 4-0-6-2, and Chopra also continued her fantasy run with a two-for-13 performance. Archana Devi also took 2 for 17, Mannat Kashyap (1/13), Shafali (1/16), and Sonam Yadav (1/3) each took 1 wicket as England struggled after being asked to bat first.
Shafali began with a boundary off Hannah Baker and then blasted Sophia Smale for a maximum in the 69-yard chase. Shweta Sehrawat, the tournament’s best hitter for her squad, was unable to contribute much.
