The veteran guard just recently joined the Celtics this season from Indiana this offseason. Brogdon has had a very successful season coming off the bench to excel in his sixth man role.
This season, the 30-year-old has averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists off the bench. In fact, only Russell Westbrook has better stats in terms of players in the NBA coming off the bench.
Brogdon wins the Sixth Man of the Year award
To win the award, the 30-year-old managed to beat fellow finalists Immanuel Quickley of the New York Knicks and Bobby Portis of the Chicago Bulls. Brogdon earned a total of 60 first-place votes, with 408 points overall. Meanwhile, Quickley earned 34 first place votes and 326 points.
While receiving the award, Brogdon shared:
This is such an honour. It has definitely been a transition for me, coming from Indiana to Boston. My last two seasons, they weren’t super successful, so for me that was another gut check for me in understanding that maybe I’m not a No 1 guy but I can be a great No 2, 3 or 4.”
