Why was Srinivasan Apologizing?
Although, as of now there isn’t any official confirmation behind Srinivasan’s apology.
However, as per some social media claims, the managing director of Sree Annapoorna Hotel, who reportedly owns one of the most popular vegetarian restaurant chains in Coimbatore, was compelled to apologize after he criticized the complexities of the Goods and Services Tax, aka, GST.
Reportedly, in a previous video, that went viral online, Srinivasan can be seen criticizing the GST system, highlighting the confusion caused by different tax rates for various food items.
Additionally, during a recent MSMEs meeting on September 11, which was held in Coimbatore, Srinivasan said to the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, that, “The MLA sitting beside you is a regular customer and often disputes our GST bill.”
He further added, “Different GST rates apply to everything, 5% for sweets, 12% for spices, and varying rates for a bun and its cream filling. Even officials are confused by these differences, just like our customers.”
GST on Bun = 0
GST on Cream = 5%
GST on Cream Bun = 18%Customers are asking for Cream & Bun separately due to this complex structure. Please do something about this FM madam.

Social Media User’s Reaction
After witnessing the apology video of Srinivasan, netizens expressed shock and anger, accusing Nirmala Sitharaman of arrogance. Meanwhile, DMK MP Kanimozhi commented that the Union government and its ministers should not undermine the self-esteem of Tamil Nadu.
Let us remind you, this is not the first time the BJP has faced criticism regarding taxation in the southern region. A similar incident took place in December 2018 when PM Modi interacted with BJP workers from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
During the interaction, a man named Nirmal Kumar Jain remarked that the middle class felt the government was only focused on tax collection without providing the expected relief.
