I have decided that it is right to prioritise the interests of the BBC. I have therefore, this morning, resigned as the BBC chair.

Sharp’s involvement in the loan’s arrangement before being named chairman and his failure to disclose it was the main points of the public appointments watchdog’s investigation into his behavior.

A committee of legislators had condemned Sharp, a former Goldman Sachs banker, and supporter of the ruling Conservative Party, for serious mistakes of judgment. Despite the fact that he agreed to remain in his position until June, the government is currently looking for a replacement.

Who is Richard Sharp?

Richard Sharp is an English former banker. He has been in the news because he recently resigned from the chairmanship of the BBC.

His full name is Richard Simon Sharp. He was born on February 8, 1956, in London, England. His father’s name is Eric Sharp, and his mother’s name is Marion Freedman. He also has a twin sister named Dame Victoria Sharp, who is president of the King’s Bench Division of the High Court in England and Wales. His family is of Jewish origin.

Richard Sharp did his schooling at Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood. Later, he attended Christ Church, Oxford, where he earned a degree in philosophy, politics, and economics.

He was married twice. He first married Victoria Hull, a Goldman Sachs banker. They become parents to three children. However, they later divorced. He married for the second time; however, not much is known about his second wife, despite the fact that they share one daughter. His second marriage also ended in divorce.

Richard Sharp spent eight years working at JP Morgan. Before departing in 2007, he spent the next 23 years working for Goldman Sachs, reaching the position of chairman of its primary investment division in Europe.
