Where is Ravi Uppal Now?
It should be noted that Ravi Uppal has now been taken into custody in Dubai, and efforts are underway to bring him back to India. Through the Mahadev app, he orchestrated a financial scam of Rs.15,000 crores.
According to the officials, 14 accused have been named in the charge sheet, namely Sourabh Chandrakar, Ravi Uppal, Vikas Chhapariya, Chandrabhushan Verma, Satish Chandrakar, Anil Dammani, Sunil Dammani, Vishal Ahuja, Dheeraj Ahuja, Srijan Assiciates through Punaram Verma, Shiv Kumar Verma, Punaram Verma Shiv Kumar Verma, Yashoda Verma, Pawan Nathani.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, the Mahadev Online Book Betting app is an umbrella syndicate arranging online platforms for enabling illegal betting websites to enroll new users, create user IDs, and launder money through a layered web of Benami bank accounts and the agency had recently conducted searches at 39 locations across Raipur, Bhopal, Mumbai and Kolkata and seized illegal assets worth Rs 417 crore.
In the Mahadev betting app case, there are allegations of fraud of 15,000 crore rupees along with match-fixing, illegal hawala, cryptocurrency transactions but the exact net worth of Ravi isn’t known.
Ravi Uppal used to attend events held in various places, contributing money and promoting his name. He portrayed himself as a wealthy individual. Despite this, he failed to receive payments for well-digging services arranged at a temple in Sector 6.
Saurabh, who is believed to be Ravi’s right-hand man, handled the operations where events related to sports betting occurred. Ravi Uppal resided in Nehru Nagar, and the house was purchased by his father.
He also engaged in betting in Bhilai with Saurabh Chandrakar. With regards to the Mahadev app, Ravi Uppal went to Dubai with Saurabh Chandrakar. Ravi is considered Saurabh’s right-hand man in this venture.
Investigation
The Investigation into alleged money laundering related to illegal gambling by Uppal is being conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), apart from the Chhattisgarh Police and the Mumbai Police.
The federal investigative agency filed a charge sheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Uppal and another promoter of an internet-based platform, Saurabh Chandrakar, before a special court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, in October.
Officials revealed that the ED investigation uncovered that Mahadev Online Book App operates from a central office in the UAE.
It was stated that the app is operated by providing “panels/branches” as franchise opportunities to known associates at a profit-sharing ratio of 70-30 percent.
