Following a traffic violation at a roundabout, the Chandigarh police stopped an SUV driver named lawyer Prakash Singh Marwah who they suspected of impersonating a judicial magistrate as seen in a viral video

The driver of the viral SUV video has been identified as Prakash Singh Marwah, a lawyer by profession and inhabitant of Chandigarh’s Sector 51 region.

A video of Prakash Singh Marwah, the driver of the white SUV, fighting with traffic cops went popular on social media. The traffic police signalled Prakash to stop his automobile, and the moment was caught on camera.

Prakash proceeded to drive forward and angrily stopped the car. When the police asked to see the driver’s licence, Prakash replied, “Nahi dikhaaunga (I won’t show).”

Prakash was questioned by the traffic police about a piece of fabric that was covering the registration number on the number plate.

He got into a furious argument with the traffic cops who were on duty and demanded that they talk to a higher-ranking official who was available. However, when being requested to provide his driver’s licence, he immediately left the scene while yelling, “challan bhej dena (send me the challan).”

Prakash Singh Marwah, 34, has been questioned by the Bar Council on why his licence to practise as an attorney shouldn’t be cancelled. Marwah has been practicing law at the Chandigarh District Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court since 2023, when he joined the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association.

Action against Prakash Singh Marwah

Prakash Singh Marwah who was detained on Tuesday after he was pulled over for a traffic infraction in Chandigarh is accused of dressing up as a judge and fighting with the police is the subject of a show-cause notice from the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council.

Prakash was charged under the Indian Penal Code’s sections 170 (personating a public servant), 186 (obstructing a public servant in the performance of official duties), and 419 (cheating by personation).

Tuesday was Marwah’s scheduled appearance in the Chandigarh district court, and his lawyer, Vikas Malik, announced that a bail request will be made that same day. Chairman of the Bar Council Ashok Singla denounced Marwah’s actions, saying that a lawyer should never act in such a way.
