Bill Russell, a former player for the Boston Celtics, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the age of 88. Bill Russell passed away alongside his wife Jeannine Russell, but his third wife Marilyn Nault died before him.
Who Is Marilyn Nault?
Because Bill Russell and Marilyn Nault lived a somewhat private life, not much is known about their marriage. Russell and Nault were able to lead a tranquil life from 1996 to 2009 after living in the public eye for a large portion of their life. Even though their marriage was discreet, Marilyn Nault’s obituary revealed several things about her. In Concordia, Kansas, Marilyn Nault Russell was born on January 15, 1950. She was now about sixteen years Russell’s junior.
Nault moved to Seattle after finishing high school and started working as a jewellery salesperson. Russell was someone she met at that time. A few days after the NBA icon turned 66, the two would wed. The two enjoyed nine years of blissful living and frequent travel until Nault’s tragic death in 2009. Marilyn Nault Russell passed away from cancer just a few weeks before Russell’s birthday and their ninth wedding anniversary. Russell would have one final poignant memory of his third wife after she passed away.
David Stern called Bill Russell's dying wife to tell her he was naming the Finals MVP after Bill.

Russell would find love once more in addition to working to discover a treatment for the illness that claimed his third wife. Jeannine Fiorito, a former professional golfer whom Russell would later meet and marry, changed her name to Jeannine Russell. Russell was also re-inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame at this time.
