A man requested Selena Gomez to recite “Jai Shri Ram.” He attempted to explain why it is the most effective phrase in India. With a courteous response, the singer-actress said, “Aww, thank you, honey.”
The video was first shared by Instagram user Pallav Paliwal who captioned it, “One of our followers met Selena Gomez and she said ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the occasion of Diwali.”

The man in the video has since been identified as Manish Tiwari who claims to be a producer and director as per his Instagram bio. He has posted a string of pictures with celebrities on his profile including with Salman Khan and Nita Ambani.
Fans realized when the video went viral that Selena’s attire was the same one that she wore to this year’s Cannes Film Festival, proving it wasn’t a recent video.
Selena has previously won hearts with her endearing fan interactions. She went to the 2024 Telluride Film Festival in September, which was over a month ago. She came there to promote her new movie, Emilia Pérez, and due of a particular request, she took time out of her hectic schedule to visit a local volleyball team.

“India’s best slogan? Pipe down blud it’s not related to the nation, “Jai Hind” is India’s best slogan,” wrote one user while another said: “how embarrassing and disgusting. would you say “hail Jesus” if she insisted.”
After watching the video, netizens showed their embarrassment and mocked the man by calling him uneducated.
One remark said, “See why education is important example here,” while another said that the film made them feel ashamed even if they are Hindu.
