A British teen named Jay Slater recently went missing after attending a music festival in Tenerife, Canary Islands, in Spain, with local authorities and his family out on a mass search.

According to reports, Jay was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, shorts, trainers, and carrying a black bag.

According to reports, Slater was having fun at the festival and was even sharing snaps of the night out with his friends.

Jay Slater is a 19-year-old British teenager hailing from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, UK, who recently went missing from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, in Spain. The teenager was reportedly out attending a three-day music festival over the weekend. Following the incident, Slater’s mother, Debbie, as well as his elder brother Zak, have flown in to Tenerife to join the search. Slater reportedly works as an apprentice bricklayer in his hometown of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire.

His mother, Debbie Duncan and father Warren have rushed out to Tenerife with other relatives and friends.

63 year old Andy his step dad, who works for Hyndburn Borough Council, said that while the majority of people have been helpful, some content on social media has been hurtful. Andy and Debbie have been partners for the last 11 years with Andy having a daughter named Sam as well.

Jay Slater goes missing

British teenager Jay Slater recently went missing after attending a music festival with his friends on the night of Sunday, June 16, in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Slater reportedly disappeared on Monday morning, June 17, 2024.

Upon further investigations, one of his friends, Lucy Mae, stated that she last heard from Slater on Monday when he called her up at around 8 a.m. local time. On the call, Jay stated that he had just 1% battery left in his phone, and needed to drink water. He told her that he had been trying to get back to the apartment they were staying in, but could not catch a bus.

Slater had started walking using his phone’s maps after failing to catch a bus on Monday morning. However, the journey would have reportedly taken him about 11 hours to reach on foot. Upon tracing his call, authorities discovered that Slater was last wandering around the mountainous Rural de Teno National Park.


Lucy Mae told reporters:

One of the people he has met has hired a car out of here, so he’s driven them back to his apartment and Jay has gone there not realising how far away it is. He’s ended up out in the middle of nowhere. Jay was obviously thinking he would be able to get home from there.”

Authorities conduct a mass search

Following the incident, the local authorities in Tenerife, Canary Island, have reportedly started a massive search operation for Slater. Authorities have deployed drones and helicopters to comb throughout the area. Meanwhile, Slater’s mother and elder brother have also travelled from Lancashire to Tenerife. His mother stated, upon being asked:

[I’m] beside myself with worry. He’d been at a three-day festival so he would have consumed a fair bit of alcohol but Jay was Snapchatting with friends before he went missing and seemed very compos mentis.”

Meanwhile, netizens have made a Facebook group called “Jay Slater missing”, where over 117,000 people have now joined. Jay Slater’s family and loved ones who travelled over to Tenerife are sharing updates in this group. Moreover, the British media are also using the group to monitor the latest updates on the search.
