Aaquib Wani family, education, and career
Aaquib Wani was born and raised in Delhi. Aaquib Wani developed an interest in art and culture because of his father, who dealt with Kashmiri handicrafts. Starting as a metal band guitarist and graphic artist, Wani discovered his passion for playing with colors and 3D design. He channeled his creativity into transforming denim jackets into personalized works of art. This gave birth to his unique line of custom jackets.
Aaquib is dedicated to reviving traditional art forms such as papier-mâché, Sozni embroidery, Gond art, and Pichwai. He works with a team of skilled artisans and embroiderers from different regions. Wani combines contemporary design elements with age-old techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces. His deep-rooted connection to his Kashmiri heritage is evident in every creation, reflecting the region’s language, people, food, and cultural values.
A Sustainable Vision: Wani’s artistic vision extends beyond creating visually stunning wearables. He believes in promoting self-sustainability and reducing environmental impact. By repurposing old jackets and incorporating elements from discarded fabrics, such as ikat and garment factory waste, Wani aims to raise awareness about sustainable fashion.
His commitment to preserving traditional Indian art has led him to collaborate with small-time artisans on a jacket collection inspired by Madhubani and Pattachitra art forms.
Aaquib Wani founded his design studio Aaquib Wani Design in 2018. With a diverse portfolio ranging from branding and art direction to space design and one-of-a-kind installations, AWD has established a reputation for its unparalleled aesthetics.
