Gyanesh Kumar has served in various important roles throughout his career.He has been the Secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and also served as a Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation, which is led by Home Minister Amit Shah.
Gyanesh Kumar retired from the services on January 31, 2024. His retirement marked the end of his successful career in the civil services.
He was the secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and when he was with the Cooperation Ministry, the Centre had enforced the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) (Amendment) Act, 2023, and set up three pan-India cooperative organisations.
Gyanesh is an alumni of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur) and he first worked at HUDCO.

Singh, also a Kerala-cadre IAS officer has been transferred as Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission. Kumar will continue to hold the additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
Other appointments
S Radha Chauhan, a UP-cadre IAS officer of the 1988 batch, has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. Chauhan, who is currently posted in her cadre, will replace Pradip Kumar Tripathi, who has been appointed as Secretary (Coordination), Cabinet Secretariat.
Alkesh Kumar Sharma, an IAS officer from Kerala’s 1990 batch, has been named the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology’s next secretary. Sharma’s appointment comes as part of the recent bureaucratic reshuffle at the top level. He will take over from the current Secretary of the ministry.
Sanjay Kumar, a 1990-batch Bihar-cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Kumar, who is currently serving in the cadre, will assume his new role as part of the recent bureaucratic reshuffle.
A member of the Rajasthan cadre who joined the IAS in 1987, Neel Kamal Darbari has been named Chairperson of the National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention. Darbari’s appointment is in the rank and pay of Secretary to the government of India, reflecting the importance of the role.
Jharkhand cadre IAS official S K G Rahate, who was appointed in 1990, will serve as the Secretary of the Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law & Justice. Rahate’s appointment is part of the recent bureaucratic reshuffle at the top level, aimed at bringing in fresh perspectives and leadership to key ministries.
