Reactions from the community
Laxminarayan Shetty who is an activist and local citizen revealed that Nagpal’s death was caused by a broken traffic signal. On Sunday, he shared on social networking platform X, that who is responsible for the tragic loss of Dhiren Nagpal in an accident at the defunct signal turn on Eastern Express Highway, Mulund East.
Shetty highlighted in a post that the signal system built two months ago was put on hold by higher authorities. Orders from above slowed its operation, and separators were installed to prevent the right turn towards Nashik.
The message stated that the traffic department of @mybmc and @MTPHereToHelp completed the job in a matter of days. He further mentioned that the responsible authority must be held accountable for Dhiren’s death.
Surprisingly, the system was triggered the morning following the accident. A life was lost as a result of this neglect. So, people are demanding answers and justice.
A retired BMC worker who lives nearby claimed residents had been fighting for a signal for years. According to him, the signal was finally erected three months ago but has not been made operational.
