Who is BJP worker Sai Prasad quizzed in connection to Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly questioned Sai Prasad, a renowned BJP activist in connection with the recent Rameshwaram Cafe blast on March 1

According to reports, the NIA reportedly detained the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker on Friday from Thirthahalli in the Shivamogga district, Karnataka. While his role in the case is yet to be ascertained, some reports claim he is a witness.

Just recently on March 1, 2024, a low-intensity blast took place at the famous Rameshwaram cafe in Bengaluru injuring at least 10 people.

Following the recent Rameshwaram Cafe blast, the NIA have detained Sai Prasad after conducting investigations. According to reports, Sai Prasad allegedly had contacts with suspects in Theerthahalli and Chikkamagaluru. As part of the investigations, the NIA had earlier raided the residences of two youths and a mobile shop owner located in Theerthahalli. The official reports stated that Sai Prasad reportedly had contact with these individuals in Theerthahalli.

Moreover, the report also stated that Muzammil Shareef, the alleged mastermind behind the Bengaluru Cafe blast, who is originally from Kalasa, “relocated his mother to Chikkamagaluru, with the assistance of the inspector.” The NIA had previously arrested Shareef as the key conspirator after conducting some massive raids across 18 locations, including 12 in Karnataka, 5 in Tamil Nadu, as well as one in Uttar Pradesh.

Police arrests other accused in Rameshwaram blast case

Aside from Sai Prasad, the NIA have arrested several other accused persons after taking over the case on March 3. The NIA identified Mussavir Hussain Shazib and co-conspirator as Abdul Matheen Taahaa as the main accused who carried out the IED blast. Notably, both the accused are residents of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district.

The investigation also revealed that Muzammil Shareef extended logistic support to the two accused.

Prior to the arrest, the NIA had declared a reward of ₹10 lakh each against Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa and Mussavir Hussain Shazib in connection to the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case. The agency came out on its official ‘X’ handle to circulate the pictures of the two accused. While sharing the information, the NIA also assured that the identity of the informer will be kept secret.
