Ankit Saklani, employed by Mumbai-based Elvis Ship Management since December 1, has been unaccounted for since December 18, according to his wife, Pinky.

Initially, the first ten days of Ankit’s employment were uneventful, but he began sending ‘peculiar messages’ expressing his desire to return.

Pinky Saklani stated that on December 11, Ankit messaged her, hinting that if anything happened to him, the company would be held responsible.

Concerned, Pinky contacted the shipping company, where agents Dinesh Jaiswal and another woman explained that Ankit’s signoff could only occur upon the ship’s arrival at the Turkish port on December 18.

However, on that day at 5 pm, Pinky received a call stating that Ankit had jumped off the vessel just before reaching the port. Ankit’s brother, suspicious of foul play, wrote to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging an investigation.

Pinky alleged that the company is attempting to label the incident as a suicide and has ceased communication with the family. Despite the company initially claiming a search operation was ongoing, Pinky reported that they have stopped responding to messages.

The family has also written to the Turkey Embassy seeking assistance but has not received any help. Ankit Saklani, a resident of Dehradun and father of a four-year-old daughter, remains missing, and the investigation into the case is ongoing. He has been serving for the last 15-16 years.

Previously, in another news, following the drone attack on a merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea on Saturday, the Indian Coast Guard has expanded its operations in the region, specifically within the Exclusive Economic Zone.

This expansion involves deploying an increased number of offshore patrol vessels and a 50% rise in Dornier aircraft sorties over the affected area.

ICGS Vikram, an Indian Coast Guard ship, was the initial vessel to make contact with MV Chem Pluto, which suffered significant damage from the drone attack that occurred 217 miles off the Indian coast.

To enhance security and vigilance, the Indian Coast Guard has augmented the presence of Offshore Patrol Vessels, equipped with ALH Dhruv helicopters.
