When former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi asserted that no one in the Indian squad loved Gautam Gambhir when he played during an interview on Aaj Tak TV, Indian fans took offence to the way former India spinner Harbhajan Singh responded by laughing.
Even while they were competing in cricket and after they finished their careers, Afridi and Gambhir did not get along well. Both players didn’t hold back when cursing at one another during an on-field altercation in a 2007 ODI match in Kanpur.
Gambhir and Afridi have frequently disagreed on Twitter in recent years, whether it be over politics or cricket. Afridi has responded angrily to Gambhir’s repeated criticisms of his stance on divisive topics involving India and Pakistan. The former Pakistani captain continued to criticise Gambhir on Sunday, August 28, when the latter appeared on Aaj Tak as a member of the knowledgeable panel on Pakistan’s Samaa TV channel.
What did Afridi claim?
In the conversation, in which Harbhajan Singh also participated, Afridi asserted that no one liked Gautam Gambhir, not even Indian players.
“It’s not like I’ve gotten into a physical altercation with any Indian guys. Yes, there have been some verbal debates with Gautam Gambhir in the past.” As he discussed his interactions with the Indian players, Afridi stated, “And I think that Gautam is a kind of character that no one loved even in the Indian team.”
The post-statement reaction was even more awful.
Harbhajan Singh and the host Vikrant Gupta both laughed at this. The Indian cricket supporters, however, didn’t take kindly to this laughter and criticized Harbhajan Singh for his response to what Afridi had said about his former India teammate Gambhir.
Afridi and Harbhajan were seen laughing together after the former made a remark about Gambhir, which prompted numerous other tweets from Indian supporters who were disappointed.
