Sergio Ramos, one of the best defenders of all time to step on the field. He started his career at Sevilla and went on to join Real Madrid in 2005, for a record fee of 27 million euros. In the initial phase of his career he played as a right back but later went on to become a world class center back. With his contract at Real Madrid set to expire, Sergio Ramos has decided to leave the club where he played for 16 years.

Let us look at his time with Los Blancos, the achievements and his potential future club.

Sergio Ramos Career: A Galore Of Trophies

Sergio Ramos is undoubtedly the most decorated footballer. Having won the Champions League 4 times with Real Madrid. 3 times as a captain is a feat that is hard to repeat. With that he has 5 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey and 3 UEFA Super Cup and Club world Cup.

Very few players in history have had such an illustrious career. Finishing trophy-less in his last season as a Real Madrid player is disappointing. When looking back at his time at the Spanish capital, there would hardly be any regrets from his and fans point of view.

Sergio Ramos: The Last Minute Hero

Sergio Ramos is the player you want in your team when you need a last minute goal. He has scored multiple last minute goals to save Real Madrid. The most talked is the one against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final of 2014. With only seconds left on the clock and the city rivals leading by 1-0, Sergio Ramos rose above everyone else and put the ball in the back of the net to take the game into extra time.

The goal which gave Real Madrid the La Liga title in 2006-07 season. Barcelona and Real Madrid battling for the title in the 2nd half of the season came face-to-face and it was Ramos who scored the 3rd goal ending the match as a draw. This goal gave them a head-to-head advantage and eventually the La Liga title.

Sergio Ramos Transfer News: What’s Next For Mr. Real Madrid

After being snubbed by Luis Enrique for Euro 2020, Ramos had time to reflect at his position at Real Madrid. Both, Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos wished the negotiations would lead to an extension but it wasn’t meant to happen. This means Sergio Ramos left Real Madrid after 16 years for free. The 35 year old, on a free transfer will catch the eye of many top clubs.

“Real Madrid announces that tomorrow, Thursday 17 June, at 12:30 pm, an act of tribute and farewell to our captain Sergio Ramos will be held, which will be attended by our president Florentino Perez.”

Sergio Ramos New Club

PSG are the ones linked to Ramos for past few months. The French side are desperate for European success and who better than Ramos to get them this long awaited glory. The question is, do PSG really need Sergio Ramos ? With Kimpembe and Marquinhos the center back position is covered and Ramos would not join a club to play as a backup defender.

Manchester City also are in the mix. After loosing the Champions League final they want to strengthen their squad, and Ramos could be a good addition. But the same problem arises, who will get dropped to the bench. Stones and Ruben Dias have formed a very good partnership this season and with Laporte and Nathan Ake on the bench the need for central defender is not there.

His former club, Sevilla are also linked but that move looks highly unlikely. A club that are not yet linked with Ramos are Manchester United. The Red Devils want to improve their backline and having being linked to Varane, Sergio Ramos on a free transfer could be a very good signing. MLS could be a good destination with David Beckham keen to bring world class players to his club.

Where will Sergio Ramos play next season is still not clear but his contribution at Real Madrid will forever be acknowledged.
