India entered this match on a high after destroying Bhutan 9-0, but they were aware that their opponents are the most powerful team in the competition. Russia made sure India didn’t have much of the ball almost right away by controlling play and rotating possession. Although India’s defense was capable, they were brought to their knees in the 10th minute by a costly goalkeeping error. Immediately after, Russia were awarded a penalty owing to foul in the box by Indian defense and it proved costly as Daria Kotlova scored with this to make it 2-0 for Russia.

Although Indian players gave their best in search of goals, stern Russian defense kept them at bay and ensured the game stayed at 2-0 till the very end. With this victory, Russia finished the tournament at the top of the table with four wins from four games. Meanwhile, India will be disappointed to finish third with only six points from four games.
