Rock Garden history
Before the Rock Garden was uncovered by authorities in 1975, construction had been going on covertly for almost 20 years, starting in 1957.
The garden had grown to 12 acres by the time it was discovered. Local officials made the decision to support it after realizing its artistic and cultural significance. It is known that Saini worked almost alone in the beginning, despite the lack of precise information regarding the original expenses and manpower.
Today, the 40-acre Rock Garden is home to more than 2,000 sculptures made from recycled materials, including glass bangles, neon tubes, shattered ceramics, and industrial waste. There have been major changes to the Rock Garden since it was officially recognized. After being made public, it was enlarged to include pavilions, outdoor theatres, and man-made waterfall
