The accused cut up the victim’s corpse into 35 parts and scattered them over 18 different places.
While many people raised their voices and expressed their opinions against this whole incident, many people started debating over the accused religion. As many people make it a Hindu-Muslim issue, because Shraddha and Aftab belonged to different faiths, many other people began suspecting Aftab’s Islamic identity.

Since the Poonawalla surname has often been used by both Muslims and Parsis in India, Aftab Amin Poonawallaโs religious identity has become the talk of the town with many people trying to find out which he follows actually.
Aftab had admitted to becoming a Muslim in a post from 2014 at that time. Under the handle @thehungrychokro, the suspected murderer has an Instagram account.
In one of his posts from 2014, one Instagram user named @zloymom asked him about which religion he followed in the comment section, saying,
Hello, my friend! Can I ask you โ are you Krishna or Muslim? I have two friends from India one of them is Krishna and other one โ Muslim.
He replied,
I am a Muslim and the other term youโre is Hindu. Lord Krishna is the God of Hindus. May I ask why the certain inquisitiveness about my religion???
An Instagram user then responded to his reply by saying,
Because I want to correct say you HI โ if You are Muslim Iโll say You Salam Aleykum. Otherwise I would need to say Namaste.
To this, Aftab replied,
A normal and regular Hello would work too.
Thus, it is evident from the murderer’s reply that he is a follower of Islam.
Additionally, the complaint, which was submitted to the police by the victim’s father and included with the First Information Report (FIR) in the case, makes it clear what religion the accused belongs to.
