As per the media, the Oscar-winning documentary movie maker died after fighting a long battle with bladder cancer. People got to know about her diagnosis when it was revealed that Julia was undergoing chemotherapy ahead of her Oscar win and apart from all this, she attended a star-studded event and also accepted the award for ‘American Factory’ in front of an esteemed audience.

Julia R was born on 6th of June in 1946, and Reichert started her professional journey by joining the WYSO radio in 1968. She began creating shows for the radio station. She created and hosted ‘The Single Girl’ on the WYSO, which was possibly one of the first openly feminist radio programs in the nation. Meanwhile, in 1971 Julia came out with her first documentary named as ‘Growing Up Female’.

Year 1977 saw her earning her first Academy Award nomination for the ‘Union Maids,’ which was based on three in the labor history book ‘Rank and File’. Moreover, things took a U-turn when China and the US clash with each other in trade wars. The documentary had received universal acclaim and also streamed exclusively on Netflix.

Apart from all this, it was the very first time that a documentary was acquired by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher to the Ground Productions. The documentary also achieved numerous accolades, including the awards for Best Documentary Feature at the 92nd Academy.

Despite getting the Academy Award, Julia was a 2-time winner of the Primetime Emmy back to back, and also a 2-time nominee for the Peabody Award. Reichert, whose first movie came out almost 5 decades ago, brought progressive politics and working-class issues to the forefront. She is survived by Bognar and her daughter Lela Klein Holt. Julia also had three brothers, two grandchildren, and one nephew.

Her net worth stood at $1 million.
