The former BBC commentator, who has worked for the media outlet for approximately 50 years passed away at the age of 77.

The tragic news of his demise was confirmed by his family in a statement, which reads, “It is with great sadness that we announce that John Motson OBE died peacefully in his sleep today.”
The cause of his death has not yet been revealed as of now.
He was born on July 10, 1945, in Salford, Greater Manchester, and grew up in Lancashire with his net worth at $9 million.

For those who are unversed, let us tell you, the legendary broadcaster retired back in 2018. At the time, he expressed, “I just thought my 50th year in the BBC is 2018 and it has to end some time and I thought that would be a good note to go out.”
John started his career as a Newspaper reporter in Barnet and later he worked with Sheffield Morning Telegraph. In 1968, he went ahead and joined BBC as a sports presenter on Radio 2.
He came into lime-light after his commentary on Ronnie Radford’s famous long-range strike during FA Cup in 1972. From then on, he received a lot of affections from the sports lovers.
If you’re unsure, let us tell you, the commentator was awarded the OBE in 2001 for his services to broadcasting. He resigned from the media outlet BBC after the 2017-18 Premier League season ended.
At the time, he took to his Twitter and penned down, “As a teenager I just wanted to be John Motson. Nobody else. Terribly sad.”
If you’re wondering about his personal life, let us tell you, the commentator was married to Anne, with whom he lived in Little BBrickhill Buckinghamshire.
The couple was married for 45 years. They shared a son together, Frederick, whom they welcomed back in 1986.
Motson’s passion for football started when he was a child, and he would often attend games at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United and he went on to study history and French at University College, Hull, before starting his career in journalism.
Motson began his career at the Barnet Press in 1968, covering local news and sports and then moved on to the BBC, where he worked as a sports reporter before becoming a football commentator in 1971. His first major assignment was the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, where he covered the football tournament.
