History of Taipei Open Badminton and BWF Event Status

Since the 1970s, Taiwan has hosted the Taipei Open, which was formerly known as the Chinese Taipei Open Grand Prix Gold. The tournament has been held regularly since 1980, with the exception of 1998 and 2001 due to the Asian economic crisis. The 2022 edition of Taipei Open will be the sixteenth event on the 2022 BWF World Tour.

The Chinese Taipei Badminton Association is in charge of organizing the event, which is part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 division. Being a Super 300 tournament, Taipei Open will distribute a total prize pool of $500,000 among all participants.

Taipei Open Full Winners List, Most Successful Countries And Indian Shuttlers in Taipei Open

Only two Indians have been successful in taking gold medal home any of the categories since the Taipei Open’s beginning. The Taipei Open has always been dominated by shuttlers from Indonesia and South Korea. Indonesia brought home a total of 47 medals from the Taipei Open across all categories, while South Korea brought home 28. Chinese Taipei, the tournament’s hosts, has also won 17 championships overall, including 4 in the Men’s Singles classification.

In the women’s singles tournament of Taipei Open in 2008, Saina Nehwal brought home the gold for India. Later, in the women’s doubles final of 2009, Valiyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta prevailed to win India’s second gold in the tournament history. In any Taipei Open event since 2009, Indian shuttlers haven’t been able to repeat this success, though.
