According to authorities, a 24-year-old student Akshit Hemant Bhukya at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) committed suicide in his dorm room on Thursday night.

According to V.D. Mori, the chief inspector at the Vastrapur police station, the student was named Akshit Hemant Bhukya. He was a resident of the Warangal district in Telangana and was enrolled in his second year of the MBA program.
“The incident took place in the hostel situated on the new campus of IIMA. We have not found any suicide note. We have sent his mobile phone and laptop for forensic analysis to get a clue about the reasons for this tragedy,” the police official said.
According to officer Mori, other students saw age 24 Akshit Hemant Bhukya hanging from the ventilator’s metal grille in his room, and they immediately called the police.

As per authorities, IIMA’s new campus is home to the hostel where the event happened. No suicide note has turned up. To learn more about the circumstances surrounding this tragedy, they have sent his laptop and cell phone for forensic examination.
Following his death, the IIM-A authorities declared The Red Brick Summit (TRBS), a premier management conclave, cancelled and Bhukya was the primary coordinator for the prestigious three-day event, scheduled to begin on September 27.
“Prima facie, we do not suspect any foul play in the incident. The investigation so far indicates that Bhukya was possibly under stress due to the TRBS that was scheduled to begin on Friday. This is just the preliminary detail, and we are further investigating if he suffered from depression or if there was any other issue at play,” said Himanshu Kumar Verma, DCP, Zone-1.

In a formal statement, IIM Ahmedabad expressed its sorrow at the student’s passing by stating that they are saddened to inform that their second-year MBA student Akshith Bhukya passed away suddenly in his room on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in the afternoon.
They offered their deepest sympathies to his family and prayed for the deceased person’s soul. The IIMA community as a whole, as well as the grieving members of Mr. Akshith’s family, have the assurance and entire commitment of the Institute to offer them all kinds of support.
They are certain that the media and their friends will respect the delicate nature of the situation and will stick behind the Institute and Akshithโs family through this trying time.
At IIM-A, there has been two suicides in the last four years. Drishti Raj Kahnani, a 25-year-old PGP student, committed suicide on January 20, 2021, by hanging herself from her dorm room ceiling fan. Her birthplace was Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and she completed her schooling in New Delhi prior to being accepted into a prestigious B-school.

Shah Khushil Vishal, an undergraduate student in his first year at National Law University (NLU) in Delhi, committed suicide on Sunday. After third-year student Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar’s suicide earlier this month, this is the university’s second similar tragedy in as many months.
