Former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi passed away on February 23, in Mumbai. Manohar was reportedly admitted to the P.D. Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Mumbai. After being placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on February 21, he eventually passed away early Friday morning around 3 am. Following his death, his son Unmesh shared:
He had been admitted to the ICU and was under observation. He had cardiac trouble on Wednesday. He had prolonged age-related health issues. We will be performing last rites at Shivaji Park crematorium and before this, the mortal remains will be brought to our house in Matunga.”

Manohar Gajanan Joshi was a veteran Indian politician who was born on December 2, 1937, in Nandvi, Mumbai. Prior to starting out his political career, Manohar attended the University of Mumbai. He also obtained a degree in civil engineering from the prestigious Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai. Manohar was most prominently renowned for serving as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999, and he belonged to the Shiv Sena party.

Manohar married Anagha Joshi in 1964, and the couple had a son named Unmesh Joshi. Anagha passed away in 2020, aged 75.
Manohar Joshi political career
Manohar had a very distinguished and varied political career, starting with the Rashthriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After his experiences with the RSS, he joined the Shiv Sena in 1967 and served as the municipal councilor of Mumbai from 1968–70. He then briefly served as the mayor of Mumbai from 1976-1977. Manohar Joshi eventually got elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1990, and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly from 1990–91.
After winning the 1999 general elections, he served as the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. However, prior to this, his most significant milestone came when he assumed the role of chief minister of Maharashtra in 1995. He then served as a Member of Parliament and the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004 during the Vajpayee government.
