Arion was Deemed ‘Unfit’ for Trial
The culprit, initially identified as a 17-year-old from Oxfordshire, was later revealed to be Arion Kurtaj. Despite earlier reports suggesting he was deemed “unfit” for trial, a jury proceeded to determine his guilt.
Reports suggested that, the judge, taking into account Kurtaj’s autism and his proficiency and willingness in committing cybercrime, deemed him a substantial risk to the public.
A mental health assessment presented during sentencing indicated Kurtaj’s expressed “intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible” and his “high motivation.”
With an indefinite hospital order, Kurtaj is slated to remain in a secure facility on probation until medical professionals ascertain he is “no longer a danger.”
While there exists a possibility of release, it hinges on subsequent evaluations of his fitness for reintegration into society. The court also learned of Kurtaj’s violent behavior while in custody, with numerous reports of injury or property damage attributed to him.
Acknowledging the prior determination of his unfitness for trial due to autism, the jury focused on establishing his actions rather than establishing criminal intent.
Kurtaj’s hacking endeavors extended beyond Rockstar Games, encompassing alleged involvement in breaches of Nvidia and Uber by the Lapsus$ group.
The collective cost of their exploits, affecting Rockstar, Nvidia, and Uber, is estimated to be around $10 million.
Allegedly, Arion Kurtaj leaked the in-development gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 using an Amazon Fire TV Stick.
In September of last year, approximately 90 video clips of the unreleased Rockstar Games title surfaced online, hinting at a setting in Vice City and the possibility of featuring two protagonists.
The GTA 6 trailer showcased a female protagonist named Lucia and a male character, Jason, rumored to be the sequel’s second protagonist.
Despite the sentencing of the Rockstar Games hacker, leaks continue to plague the gaming industry. Insomniac Games, renowned for titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, recently fell victim to similar leaks, akin to the GTA 6 incident.
These breaches revealed numerous upcoming projects and unfinished gameplay footage, including details about their Wolverine game.
