2022 Japan Open Badminton Men’s Singles First Round Results, Score, Winners, And Indian Performance

The 2022 Japan Open for badminton’s second day was absolutely insane. On Wednesday, a number of top seeded at the Osaka tournament lost their opening round matches, including Momota Kento and Lee Zii Jia in the men’s singles. Sixth-ranked Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who was unable to play due to a lower back injury, also granted a free pass to Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the runner-up at the BWF world championships in Tokyo last week.

Lee, who is viewed as the only BWF Tour competitor with a chance to outslug Axelsen, lost against Kidambi Srikanth 22-20, 23-21. Despite having game points in all both of his sets against Kidambi, Lee allowed his Indian opponent to win and turn the tables on him. Meanwhile, Indian ace Sen, 21, lost his first round match with a score of 21-18, 14-21, 13-21 against Japanese Kenta Nishimoto despite winning the first set.

When his opponent from Hong Kong, Ng ka Long Angus, retired during the first match, HS Prannoy had already advanced to the second round earlier on Tuesday. Hence, India will have two representatives in the second round of men’s singles on Thursday in the form of HS Prannoy & Kidambi Srikanth.
